Rare Amulet Mask Carved from a Galip Nut

Iatmul - Sepik Papua New Guinea 1950.
2-1/2” without feathers.
Nut Canarium tree, glass beads, casuari feathers.

It was made by an old man in Tambunum village (Iatmul village, middle Sepik River). He has died already. He was the only person who ever made these. Tambanum Village. Iatmul Tribe. Provenance: Ex collection De Grave, The Netherlands.
